Chateldon Puy de Dôme (63), Auvergne Description : Arrive in medieval Chateldon and take the road to Puy Guillame, a pretty market town on the Allier. 500 metres up the road, looking down on Chateldon and its castle, you will find Les Charmes set in a wooded garden that once used to be a vineyard. There is room to park your car at the front of the house but your separate entrance is at the back up some steps. At the top of the steps you turn right towards the terrace with its table and barbecue and left through French windows into the sitting room where there are sofas and armchairs and a television. The kitchen is at one end. Through another door leading to an interior hall, you will find the bathroom, toilet and 3 bedrooms.

About the Location The village of Chateldon has a fascinating history dating from the early middleages. The medieval castle still stands and many of the buildings in the village centre date back to the 14th century. The town fortifications are still in evidence. Chateldon lies on the western edge of the Montagne Bourbonnaise and the northern edge of the Livradois-Forez Park, the largest nature park in Europe. The region has exceptional natural landscapes and is rich in flora and fauna. To the west lies the Limagne, where the Allier and Dore rivers converge, which is a haven for a wide variety of migratory birds. There are lots of lovely walks in the area, from the gentle to the more demanding. Some can be taken from the house itself The Montagne Bourbonnaise rises to 1300m and is a favourite for walkers, cyclists and horseriders. Two Grande Randonnee trails, the GR3 and the GR3A, pass nearby. Les charmes is 20 minutes from Vichy railway station (Paris 3 hours) Les Charmes is easily accessible from the A71/75 and A72 motorways We are 2 1/2 hours drive from Lyon (Easyjet) and Limoges (Ryanair) airports.

Notes on Rates As self-catering accommodation, our rates range from 450€ to 550€ per week. There is some room for negotiation depending on the time of year and size of the party.The gite can be rented for a minimum of 3 nights or on a weekly basis. However we also do B&B and half board.
