WELCOME TO PYRAINE “La Grange » in Pyraine hamlet has been graded four stars (****) by the Dordogne Department of Tourism Committee You may enjoy silence, mother-nature, quietness, privacy ... In “La Grange”, all these aspects of the good life are combined. More than a hundred years ago this barn was used for cattle and hay. Hence it has kepts its name “La Grange” (the Barn) and its authentic atmosphere characterized by its stone walls, its traditional old beams and its original flat tiled roof. Pyraine is a tiny hamlet of 7 homes surrounded by a forest of chestnut and pine trees. In this hamlet “La Grange” has been developed into a comfortable and roomy (200 sqm) home, beautiful to admire and lovely to live in. You will find it is furnished with antique furniture and high quality equipment. It is decorated with books, objects and paintings that will make you feel at home and forget it is a rented house. A bucolic garden. A beautiful house must have a beautiful garden and you will be under the spell of its flowers and fruit trees. The secluded and enclosed garden (2000 sqm) will provide you with the quietness you are looking for. We guarantee total silence for you to read, play or meditate as you wish with only doves as witnesses. And with all this you are still within easy reach of Perigueux, Les Eyzies and the beautiful medieval villages and towns of the Dordogne Valley.

A SPACIOUS AND BRIGHT LIVING ROOM The ground floor 60 sqm living-room opens out onto the terrace via two French-windows. Its antique furniture gives it a lot of style and its three comfortable couches make you feel like relaxing in front of the fire-place built of very old stone. Several pedestal tables and a low table are perfect for family parlour games such as those left at your disposal. The TV is in a quiet and separate part of the living-room ; it is equipped with a home-cinema, a DVD player and a video recorder. Thanks to the wood stoves you will never be chilly in winter. A cloak-room is adjoining the living-room, also a toilet and a laundry-room. A quaint little office has been installed under the big wooden staircase that leads to the first floor. Hence you have a quiet area if you wish to work, read the local touristic information left at your disposal, or write your mail.

Dining Room
A user friendly dining room Partly open into the living room, this dining-room is perfect for friendly meals around its large table that fits 8 people. In the cupboard you will find a very complete set of crockery, enough even if you have guests over for dinner. In order to warm up a chilly winter evening, you will find very safe Scandinavian wood stoves and also a CD player. The floor is covered in lovely baked clay tiles that add to the cosy atmosphere. There is direct access to the terrace through a French window. Catering service on request A choice of typical dishes “à la carte” is at your disposal. They can be delivered at either chosen meal times, or cooked in your kitchen by a professional cook (remember to place your order 24 hours ahead of time). A child friendly home A high chair will allow small children to have their meals in comfort. You will also find a child’s bed (up to age 3) and a security fence for the staircase. Baby sitting service can be organized on request.

It is separated from the dining room by an open work partition and lit by a window looking out due West It is equipped with a dishwasher, a deep-freeze/refrigerator, a hotplate cooker with an electric oven, a cooker-hood and a microwave / grill. You will also find a toaster, an electric coffee machine, an espresso coffee machine, a mixer, a food-processor, scales ... and a complete range of pots and pans, recipe books and other small and useful accessories, enough to more than satisfy those who enjoy cooking.

The first bathroom It gives directly onto the « Wild Cherry » room. It is fitted with a great comfort multijet shower, a washbasin with a lit-up mirror, a bath and a toilet. It is equipped with a roomy shower, an old fashioned washbasin, a cupboard and a toilet. As in the first bathroom, you will find a lit-up mirror, scales and a towel-dryer radiator.

The “Wild Cherry” room A large double bed (160 x 200 cm) will be yours in this room that we name “Wild Cherry” after the wood used to make the furniture. You will always feel comfortable in summer and winter in this cosy old fashioned style bed with its matching bedside tables. A panelled ceiling, two windows, a large wardrobe and a table at the foot of the bed enable you to appreciate the TV and the video recorder without even moving from under your warm quilt. This room gives directly onto a bathroom. The “Romantic” room Two single beds (90 x 200 cm) with canework bedheads have given their name to this room. There is also a wardrobe with a mirror, two bedside tables and two matching bedside lamps. From the window you will enjoy an open outlook view. As this room is up in the loft, the wooden framework, panelled ceilings and old stone walls of the house are evident The “Bleu” room The painted furniture has given its name to this room. There are two single beds (90 x 200) with matching bedside tables and wardrobe. The window looks out onto the open countryside. In addition you will find a folding spare bed for an extra guest if necessary. As in the other bedrooms, there are parquet floors and panelled ceilings.

You will find a vacuum cleaner for your car and a spare gas container. Heating “à la carte” In low season the house is heated by two wood stoves, a large fire place and by electric radiators in every room. In winter the cost of electricity is charged according to consumption. A cell phone is at your disposal. It works with “Mobicarte” cards that can be purchased in local shops. You may also buy a precise length of speech time directly from this phone (instructions can be found beside it).

GARDEN, POOL AND VERANDA The 2000 sqm private and secluded garden is totally safe for young children. It has flowers and trees that will shade your garden lunches. Your dog is of course welcome on condition you clean up after it, in respect of following tenants. On the terrace Between the house and the lawn this long terrace is large enough for 4 people to have lunch at its round table or just to relax in the sun on the deck chairs. The romantic veranda In this roomy veranda you can enjoy meals around the oval table which seats 8 people. Another set of crockery is available here so you can enjoy your meal sizzling out of the barbecue which is under a cooker hood. A stone fountain will give you fresh water. Music is also available. French windows open out onto the garden and the terrace, and Venetian blinds on the veranda ensure your privacy. The pool (5 x 10 m) is surrounded by stone paving and is equipped with a diving board and Roman staircase. It is protected by an electronic alarm system that detects accidental falls and is surrounded by a fence covered with flowers. It is totally secluded, no neighbours can see you swimming, diving, sunbathing or relaxing on the sunchairs.

Exceptional peace reigns at “La Grange” Other properties surround « La Grange », but each owner does his best to keep the hamlet quiet. In Pyraine, silence is priceless. No cars, no comings and goings, no noisy walkers, Pyraine is at the end of a little country lane. The forest is all around and you can go hiking on lots of official and well signposted routes. During your long walks you may suddenly see wild animals such as deer, rabbits, pheasants or a family of wild boar. Chateaux to be discovered during your drives Many can be visited, others are private, but just to fall lucky and suddenly “discover” one is a great joy. The prehistoric sites and their fantastic caves have made this area world famous. You can drive there within 45 minutes (average time). The Dordogne is a long quiet river on which you can canoe, picnic, swim or fish. You will love its unique landscapes, the chateaux and the wild geese. The Dordogne area is also famous for its gastronomy There are many restaurants, all in competition with each other to serve you the best local dishes flavoured with wild truffles, mushrooms, foie gras ... On the weekly markets, rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, you can find unusual products such as spaghetti-zucchini, flat peaches, half steamed prunes, vineyard leeks, ox-heart tomatoes ... The garage sales are great fun. Every Sunday in the litlle villages around Pyraine, people sell old furniture, objects, clothes and toys at ridiculous prices. In a fun atmosphere you can hunt for treasures! The village meals are also a must. Suddenly tables and chairs appear in the streets, the barbecues flare up. The local ham and cheese makers, and also the wine dealers, all bring out their goodies to be tasted. All this in the middle of laughter and sometimes a brass band. Wine tasting In the neighbourhood of Pyraine, vine culture is a little miracle! In less than forty five minutes you can visit the world famous vineyards of Monbazillac and St Emilion Visiting is also another way of discovering the less well known wines of Bergerac or Pecharmant that are perfect for everyday meals (less than 30 minutes drive away). For sportsmen. In Perigueux (30 kms) you can play golf. Very close to Pyraine there are several riding clubs, cross country treks, tennis courts. Also in Bergerac (20 kms) there is a flying club.

RENTAL PRICE

« La Grange » in Pyraine is let all year round for a minimum period of one week.

Arrivals are from 3 pm on Saturdays.
Departures are before 11 am on Saturdays.

Low season 600 euros per week (the cost of electricity will be charged from November to April, according to consumption)

Middle season 1000 euros per week (logs for wood stove are supplied)

High season 1600 euros per week
