General information
Beautiful country farmhouse in the perfect, tranquil setting.
Montignac Le Coq
Dordogne (24), Aquitaine

Description :
The farmhouse provides a perfect self catering holiday for the whole family: completely detached and away from the ´hustle and bustle´ of the outside world. The 18th century family house has been lovingly restored retaining a traditional French country feel. Incorporating all the original stone and timber features which give it so much character, the house is equipped with totally modern amenities, alleviating any worries of antique French plumbing! Situated in a pretty courtyard, the farmhouse forms a square with the other original farm dwellings, only one of which, the wine chais, is inhabited, by ourselves. We welcome guests on arrival and are happy to assist or advise should you so wish. The swimming pool is 10m x 5m and for the sole use of the farmhouse guests, set within the ruined walls of an old barn, it is both secluded and bathed in sunshine. There is plenty of outdoor furniture such as sun loungers, table and chairs. The vicinity of the pool is securely yet discreetly fenced, for the safety of young children and in compliance with French Government regulations. The pool is open from 17th May until 4th October. Surrounded by gently rolling fields, Le Pible sits quietly amongst meadows of wild flowers, corn and sunflowers. The light woodlands are home to nightingales and numerous birds of prey, including buzzards, kites and owls, and the natural fresh water springs attract an assortment of wildlife. There is table tennis to enjoy in the open barn and many country lanes and tracks to explore. But if finding a little corner to read your book in dappled shade is the order of the day, then look no further! a seat or hammock under the fruit trees of the walled garden, is the perfect spot. A telephone is installed in order that guests may be contacted if they so wish, and outgoing calls can be obtained with the use of a phone card. A 2mb broadband wireless facility is available. There is a UK satellite television ‘Free to View’ (24 hrs news, BBC and children’s channels etc) as well as a portable CD audio player. The ideal holiday rental property. All fresh linen is supplied, including towels, and the beds are ready made up on arrival. The farmhouse suits perfectly all those wishing to enjoy the peace and tranquility, found in the perfect, ´away from it all´, location.

Montignac Le Coq, in the region of Aquitaine, is an ideal location and is a little corner regarded by the Michelin Guides as a place of special beauty: although this is rural France and the pace of life very relaxed, there is also plenty to see and do for those who prefer a more active holiday. The region comes alive in spring and summer, with outdoor country fêtes galore. Within a 10-15 minutes drive there are villages full of activity, places to visit, enjoy a meal or a quiet drink in the shade. The picturesque old Roman town of Aubeterre, voted one of the prettiest villages in France, is only a short drive away. Wander up through the winding streets to the 12th century subterranean (Monolithic) church carved out of the rock or enjoy a drink on the village tree lined square where you´ll find a variety of shops, small bistros, museums and all overlooked by a 1000 year old chateau. Walk on down to the river beach for a swim, relax and catch a bite to eat at the nearby cafe . Pretty drives along quiet roads will bring you to many fine old cities such as Angoulême, Perigueux and Cognac. Many famous Cognac houses offer guided tours, not forgetting tastings! Of course the world famous wine village of Saint Emilion is not far away where one can visit their traditional caves and buy bottles to enjoy during your vacation! Fabulous beaches with surfing waves are within an hour and half drive, and nearby rivers make peaceful picnic locations. Drift lazily down the Dronne river in a canoe or take a tailor made pony trek through the quiet countryside, these and many other activities are all readily available. There are 18 hole golf courses within 40 minutes drive all excellently maintained and reasonably priced, but just 3 km away you will find the Manoir de Longeveau where there is a 9 hole golf course, several tennis courts, and a friendly welcome. Children will find plenty to occupy themselves and their families with activities ranging from crazy golf, horse riding and tree top adventure to daytrip’s to the popular attractions of Aqualand Water Park, La Palmyre Zoo at Saint Palais and Futurescope. Between the months of June and September there are a variety of local festivals, ffêtestes and firework displays that take place in the local villages and towns which are always fun at any age! A wonderful choice of local restaurants mix culture and cuisine, both musically and artistically, and there is a wide selection to suit all tastes and pockets. From simple omelettes with wild mushrooms, to exquisite regional delicacies such as pan fried duck breast, thinly sliced and served on a bed of apple and fennel, whose flavours are enriched with the addition of locally produced foie gras and a hint of cognac! A folder in the house provides up to date details of the best places to choose from! Lively outdoor markets provide all the necessary ingredients for alfresco dining: from fresh olives, patés and orchard fruits to wines, and cheeses from every corner of France!

About the Location

Notes for guests

In preparing our farmhouse for your holiday, and so that you leave with happy memories of an enjoyable and relaxing stay, we have paid great attention to every last detail, both large and small, in the hope that you will want to make return visits to Le Pible, and recommend us to your friends.

Notes on Rates

Reservations are for a minimum 2 week period during June, July and August - since the farmhouse became available in 2004 virtually without exception, where guests have reserved for a single week, they deeply regret on arrival not having made a 2 week booking! "Nowhere else comes close to Le Pible" or so guests tell us !? So we now make it easy for everyone and quote two week booking periods as featuring above. Prices are per week, and a deposit of 30% confirms a reservation. The changeover day in high season is Saturday and the farmhouse will be available as from 4:00 p.m. We would ask you to vacate by 10:00 a.m. to enable the house to be properly cleaned and prepared before guests arrive.
